Engagement & Pricing Policies
Legal Limit Consulting provides specialized consulting, expert-witness, trial-support, and related professional services. Because many engagements require advance preparation, travel, and reservation of specific dates, the following general policies apply unless different terms are agreed upon in writing.
Reserved Professional Time
Fees associated with reserved professional time are based on the commitment of that time to a particular matter, not solely upon whether the scheduled proceeding ultimately occurs.
- Trial and testimony days
- Standby and availability days
- Hearing and deposition appearances
- Professional travel time and reserved travel days
- Other specifically reserved professional availability
Once dates are confirmed and fees are paid, these professional-time and availability fees are considered earned and nonrefundable.
These fees compensate Legal Limit Consulting for reserving the designated time, maintaining availability for the matter, and declining potentially conflicting professional engagements.
A cancellation, continuance, settlement, plea, dismissal, scheduling change, or decision not to call the expert does not alter the fact that the professional availability was reserved for the matter.
Travel Expenses
Airfare, lodging, rental vehicles, parking, meals, and other travel-related expenses may be quoted as fixed amounts or estimated as part of an overall travel package.
If a scheduled proceeding is cancelled or continued, Legal Limit Consulting will make reasonable efforts to mitigate recoverable travel expenses.
Where airfare, lodging, or other travel value can be recovered or preserved for a rescheduled appearance, that recovery may be credited or otherwise considered when establishing the travel costs associated with the rescheduled engagement.
Professional travel time itself is reserved professional time and is separate from recoverable out-of-pocket travel expenses.
Rescheduled Proceedings
A continued or rescheduled proceeding requires a new reservation of professional availability.
When appropriate, Legal Limit Consulting may reduce fees associated with the rescheduled appearance to account for travel costs or other value successfully preserved from the original reservation.
Additional Services
Custom demonstratives, presentations, supplemental evaluations, additional discovery review, trial exhibits, graphics, animations, or other work requested outside the original scope of an engagement may be separately quoted before the additional work is performed.
Individual Engagement Terms
Specific written quotes, invoices, or engagement terms for an individual matter control if they differ from these general policies.
